From the book jacket:

Rex is not happy. In fact, he's so cross he tears up his purple and green party invitation and throws it away. Why would he want to go to a stupid party? No one pays any attention to him, nobody cares what he wants to do. He stamps in a silvery puddle and makes his sister cry, thinking it will make him feel better. But it doesn't. He feels like a big brown bear - a big, brown, very angry bear!

'You shan't go to the party,' says his mother. 'Who'd wnat you at a party?'

Rex knows she is right. He crawls under his bed and is soon fast asleep and dreaming the most incredible dream. And when he wakes up the big angry bear has quite gone - for now, anyway!

Fay Weldon's colourful text describes perfectly the frustrations of a small child who is growing up and fighting to be noticed in a busy world. Coupled with Muņoz's expansive paintings, it captures the world of a child's imagination.

Bio from the book jacket:

Fay Weldon was born in England and raised in New Zealand in a household of writing women. She received an MA in Economics and Psychology from St Andrews University and then, after a decade of odd jobs, turned to writing film scripts, plays, critical essays, short stories and novels. She has written many books for adults including The Life and Loves of a She Devil This is her first book for children. Fay Weldon has four sons and lives in London.

Claudio Muņoz was born and grew up in Chile. Having finished school he went on to study architecture at university, leaving to work in the field of illustration. On moving to London, Muņoz started work as a graphic designer before quickly returning to his first love of illustration. He is widely renowned for his delightfully atmospheric illustrations of children's books such as The New Dress by Ivor Cutler and Little Captain which he wrote himself. Claudio Muņoz lives in Bath with his wife, Jill Newsome, a painter, and their three children.

Webmaster's Note:
The text for this book is the same as Party Puddle which has much nicer illustrations. The bio for this book says that this is Fay Weldon's first children's book, but the bio for Party Puddle says it was her second.

This is her most recent children's book.
